Hi! I'm Andy, the Founder and Head Guitar Teacher at Off The Scale Music Workshop.
I grew up in a musical family and picked up my first guitar at 13—since then, I never looked back. I immediately fell in love with the instrument and enrolled in my first music school, unaware that this would be the start of a lifelong journey.
After six years of private lessons, I flew to Kuala Lumpur to audition for the Berklee College of Music in Boston, following in the footsteps of my biggest musical influences. I graduated with the highest honors and had the privilege of studying with incredible mentors, including Don Lappin, Joe Stump, Shaun Michaud, Jon Finn, Scott Tarulli, Randy Roos, and Tim Miller. After graduating, I relocated to Los Angeles to pursue my career as a guitarist, performer, and educator.
In addition to leading Off The Scale Music Workshop, I am a member of the progressive metal band Lacedaemon and co-host of the Break Stuff podcast, where we explore the creative process, industry insights, and the art of music production. Currently, I am collaborating with a multi-award-winning producer and former member of Boys Like Girls, composing music for major multimedia projects.
While performing is a profound passion of mine, teaching has always held a special place in my heart. I began teaching guitar and music theory in 2013 and have since worked with musicians of all backgrounds and ages. My passion for foreign languages also allowed me to teach in English, Tagalog, and French, helping me connect with a broader audience and expand beyond the local market.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity, I find immense joy in both learning and sharing knowledge. Music, to me, is mesmerizing—an endless world of discovery with infinite possibilities.
Though progressive metal is my specialty, my musical journey has led me to explore and gain extensive experience in a wide range of genres, including rock, pop, jazz, and blues.
